Kirkman’s Calcium/Magnesium Capsules offer two important minerals in one hypoallergenic capsule.  The suggested daily dose of two capsules supplies 300 mg of calcium from a carbonate-citrate blend and 150 mg. of magnesium from an oxide-glycinate blend.  Vitamin D is added to enhance absorption.
Adults can safely take up to eight capsules a day to satisfy the high recommended daily values for these two minerals.   The dosage required by an individual is dependant on other supplements being used and the type of diet consumed.  The total adult daily requirement of calcium is 1000-1200 mg. per day and 400-600 mg. of magnesium per day.
Calcium is a mineral that is an important component of a healthy diet and necessary for life. Approximately 98% of the body’s calcium is stored in bones and teeth. Calcium is critical for building bones and teeth in childhood and for maintaining strong bones and teeth thereafter. In the rest of the body, calcium supports heart function, circulation, nerve function and muscle tone. 
Deficiencies can lead to rickets, poor blood clotting, osteoporosis and increased risk of fractures. Over-retention can cause hypercalcemia (elevated levels of calcium in the blood), impaired kidney function and decreased absorption of other minerals. 
Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium, so it is important to make sure your diet contains sufficient amounts of that nutrient.
Magnesium is an essential mineral that is involved in many body functions as well as being a constituent of bones and teeth. It is an essential element of cellular metabolism and is an enzyme activator.
Other body actions include:
     •  relaxing nerve impulses and muscle contractions;
     •  promoting relaxation and contributing to restful sleep.
Signs and symptoms of magnesium deficiency can include fatigue, mental confusion, heart disturbances, irritability, weakness, muscle spasms, loss of appetite, insomnia or a feeling of weakness. The Physician’s Desk Reference for Nutritional Supplements states that recent data of inpatient and outpatient populations suggests that magnesium deficits may exist in 12% to 40% of individuals.
